Accessibility statement
Last reviewed: [AUDIT PLACEHOLDER — date to be added after formal review]
This accessibility statement applies to the FishyFractions public website at fishyfractions.co.uk and the game at play.fishyfractions.co.uk. It was prepared by [DEVELOPER NAME PLACEHOLDER].
We want FishyFractions to be usable by as many people as possible. We are continuing to improve accessibility and welcome feedback.
What we have done
The game (play.fishyfractions.co.uk)
- Adjustable text size in the game settings
- Dyslexia-friendly font (OpenDyslexic) available in settings
- High contrast mode available in settings
- Reduced motion mode — turns off animated backgrounds and decorative transitions (fish still swim)
- Sound can be muted entirely in settings
- The game respects the operating system's reduced motion preference automatically
This website (fishyfractions.co.uk)
- Semantic HTML throughout
- Navigation landmarks (
nav, main, footer) - ARIA labels on icon-only buttons and decorative SVGs
- Keyboard navigation supported
- Colour contrast checked against WCAG 2.1 AA — primary text (#f0f8ff) on background (#0a1628) passes at 17.5:1
- Focus indicators visible
- All images have alt text; decorative images use
aria-hidden="true" - Interactive fraction examples on the help pages are labelled for screen readers
Known issues
Audit in progress
A formal accessibility audit is planned. The items below reflect known issues ahead of that audit. This section will be updated with the audit results.
The game
- The game is built on the Phaser HTML5 canvas framework. Canvas-based games have inherent limitations for screen reader accessibility — game content rendered on canvas is not exposed to the browser's accessibility tree.
- Drag-and-drop tile interaction does not currently have a keyboard alternative. A keyboard interaction mode (number keys to select tiles) is planned but not yet available.

Standards
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA for this website. The game targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA where technically feasible within the constraints of a canvas-based game. Some criteria that apply to HTML documents cannot be met by canvas-rendered content.
This statement was prepared in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 . These regulations apply to public sector bodies; we follow them as a voluntary commitment to good practice.
Compatibility
The game and website are designed to work with:
- Modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge
- iOS Safari (iPhone and iPad)
- Android Chrome
- Chromebook browsers used in schools
The game is not designed for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is not supported by Microsoft and should not be used.
